Songwriting Workshop: Bob Livingston at The Grand

Singer-songwriter Bob Livingston leads the 10th annual Lewisville Grand Theater Songwriting Workshop.

This intimate workshop will open with brief introductions, giving participants an opportunity to share their backgrounds and any goals they have for the workshop. Bob will shed light on his background, perform a few songs, and share stories from his extensive and action-packed musical career. Participants will learn about his “process over product” approach to songwriting, with an emphasis on collaboration, as well as the importance of performance, stories, rhythm, and meter.

The best way to teach songwriting is to have the participants write a song, so Bob will lead the group in a collaborative effort to pen a new tune. If completed in time, participants will be invited to join Bob onstage the following night to perform it during his Black Box Songwriter Series concert. The afternoon will continue with breakout groups tackling a songwriting prompt, a Q&A session, and – if time allows – participants can share any original songs or works-in-progress.

Participation in this workshop is limited to 20 people.

The 10th annual Lewisville Grand Songwriting Workshop is part of the Black Box Songwriter Concert Series, which features singer-songwriters in an intimate, listening room setting. Since its inception in 2015, the series has attracted a variety of celebrated songwriters, such as Gretchen Peters (“Independence Day”), Susan Gibson (“Wide Open Spaces”), and Walt Wilkins (“Trains I Missed”), and numerous award-winning troubadours. Both newcomers and veteran songwriters have played the series and given fans a chance to hear incredible songs as well as the stories behind them.

Tickets are $55 and include a catered lunch and one ticket to the Black Box Songwriter Series: Bob Livingston concert taking place the following evening, Sunday, May 22, at 6:30 p.m. A complimentary ticket to the concert is automatically included in your order. Additional tickets can be purchased at a 50% discount of $10 (you will receive a prompt to add any additional concert tickets when checking out).
