Angel White

Angel White is a singer-songwriter from Dallas, Texas whose music blends R&B, Pop, and Western influences in a new and unprecedented way. Angel spent his formative years busking on the streets of Deep Ellum, learning the power of his voice and how it could touch the people around him.

It was this approach to songwriting that spawned White’s new solo identity and thus his forthcoming album, Ghost of the West.

Unlike most contemporary music, White’s music is not “wallpaper” or transparent: instead, his songs will take listeners to a specific place. For White; a western landscape is equally beautiful and dark in its vastness.

Solo guitar artist Andrew Gates is from Fort Worth, TX.

Alejandro Escovedo

Crossing borders, jumping barriers, taking risks, betting it all: that’s the path Alejandro Escovedo has been taking in his lifelong search for the heart of rock and roll. The epic 17-song suite comprising The Crossing is about that journey: searching, but not necessarily finding, eyes and ears open all the way. Ranging from sweeping orchestral numbers to classic rock to bursts of 70s punk, the collection finds Escovedo delving further into his lifelong musical journey across his most sonically diverse work yet.

The Crossing tells the tale of two boys, one from Mexico, and one from Italy, who meet in Texas to chase their American rock and roll dreams. They discover a not-so-welcoming, very different place from the Promised Land they imagined, with cameos from the likes of Wayne Kramer of the MC5 and James Williamson of the Stooges to show the boys the way. A Mexican-American kid with Texas roots and California raising taking on immigration issues in two continents with an Italian band, no less, makes perfect sense — if you know Alejandro Escovedo. Forever the curious explorer, he’s been a punk of the rebel kind in The Nuns, a cowpunk of the non-Western variety in Rank and File, commander of a guitar army in The True Believers, an orchestral conductor in his solo work, and a sensitive boy who has outrun death, demons, lust, and lost love in his songs. He has collaborated with Bruce Springsteen, John Cale, Los Lobos, Peter Buck & Scott McCaughey, Los Texmaniacs, and Chuck Prophet. No Depression magazine declared him the Artist of the Decade.

Arlington Community Band

The Arlington Community Band was originally formed in 1976 in honor of the City of Arlington’s celebration of the American Bicentennial. Later, the band re-organized as the Arlington Civic Band to offer the citizens of Arlington the opportunity to experience symphonic band music. The band began its concert season in the summer of 1982 under the direction of Ray Lichtenwalter, band director at UTA.

In 1992, Steve Musser became musical director and conductor of the Arlington Community Band (ACB) and served a two-year term. In 1994 the band was incorporated as the Arlington Community Band. Bob Copeland then conducted and directed the ACB for 16 years as head director, as well as 12 additional years as assistant director when the band was originally formed.

In December 2009, Bob Copeland retired from the band. Rick Baker, who played trumpet in the band for 28 years, was appointed musical director and conductor.

During the 2000 summer season, the sentiment was strong among the band membership to perform on a year-round basis. The ACB has performed many concerts since then, most notably at Arlington’s annual Fourth of July Parade. The band has also appeared at Six Flags Over Texas, Riverfest at River Legacy Park, UTA Summer Music Camps, and numerous locations around Arlington during its summer concert seasons. Over recent years, the ACB has continued to perform at the Arlington Fourth of July Parade, as well as the Parade of Lights every December. Indoor concerts are regularly hosted by many area churches and retirement homes, including First United Methodist Church, First Church of the Nazarene, First Christian Church, New World United Methodist Church, Irving Arts Center, and Fox Run Retirement Center. As well as performing annually for the Arlington Downtown Rotary Club.

In 2005, the Arlington City Council proclaimed the Arlington Community Band as “The Official Band of Arlington”.

Amelia Presley

When you hear Amelia Presley sing, it is impossible not to hear pangs of profound sorrow wrapped in a soulful voice fraught with struggle and deeply buried secrets.  It’s a burned up and scarred over the foundation from which her songs have been harvested, and she a phoenix born of the very flames that have tried to consume her completely.  Through her newly acquired liberation from her own emotional self-imprisonment, she aims only to set the record straight with the release of her new single “Harm Nobody Else,” and in so doing, act as key- bearer to others who find themselves in that same kind of bondage. Amelia Presley doesn’t want pity.  She only wants you to listen.

Augie Meyers

Augie Meyers’ style and his Vox Continental has become one of music’s most distinctive keyboard sounds around. Augie can be heard with the Sir Douglas Quintet, Texas Tornados, Meyers’ solo efforts as well as on landmark albums by Bob Dylan (”Time Out of Mind” and “Love and Theft”) and John Hammond (“Wicked Grin”). Echoes of the Meyers’ style and sound can be heard in the music of the Doors, the Kinks, the Animals as well as the Beatles just to name a few.

Rolling out of San Antonio, Texas in the early ’60s, the Sir Douglas Quintet, a musical partnership formed with Doug Sahm, brought such hit tunes as “Mendocino” and “She’s About a Mover.”

By fusing Tex-Mex, Conjunto, and soulful rock together along with the power of Meyers’ distinctive Vox organ, an impact that is still being felt in rock ‘n’ roll today. While the Sir Douglas Quintet never broke up and never succumbed to the lure of the oldies circuit, when Meyers and his musical cohorts decided they wanted to do something different, they did. That led to the formation of The Texas Tornados and a Grammy award-winning South Texas sound. Meyers worked steadily with Sahm until the kinetic guitarist/vocalist passed away in 1999. Meyers has always pursued projects that interest him as an individual and as a collaborator and has long refused to lock himself into one style of music.

American Aquarium

For nearly a decade, American Aquarium have spent the majority of their days on the road, burning through a sprawl of highways during the day and playing hours of raw, rootsy rock & roll at night. Sometimes, the job is a grind. Most times, it’s a blessing. American Aquarium’s songs, filled with biographical lyrics about last calls, lost love and long horizons, have always explored both sides of that divide. For every drunken night at the bar, there’s a hangover in the morning. For every new relationship, there’s the chance of a broken heart. It’s that kind of honesty — that sort of balance — that makes the band’s newest album, Wolves, their strongest release to date.
